IT Operational Support Systems (OSS) Specialist

We’re recruiting for IT Operational Support Systems (OSS) Specialist. This role will be responsible for providing second line support and maintenance for OSS systems by applying expert knowledge and system management capabilities, ensuring maximum availability of the network monitoring applications. It will also co-ordinate and manage all highlevel support activities to support performance monitoring, fault management, configuration provision and service assurance to maintain optimal service delivery and network quality. on the OSS network equipment to facilitate efficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring proper execution of Operations Support System (OSS) software updates and upgrades
  • Implementing and controlling procedures and tests for the acceptance of new OSS equipment and software
  • Executing and assisting with Provisional Acceptance Tests and Final Acceptance Tests
  • Assisting with the installation and connection of new equipment to ensure operations standards are met
  • Ensuring data integrity of all OSS related databases and software configurations
  • Reviewing planned work for accuracy and completeness before implementation
  • Implementing and maintaining strategies and procedures for OSS hardware and software maintenance and support
  • Ensuring the integrity and use of the OSS System Support Plans
  • Organising and executing regular system and database audits
  • Organising and executing maintenance activities in cooperation with the Network Management Centre (NMC)
  • Managing the quality of work, progress and working methods applied by internal and external parties according to Service Level Agreements and other contracts
  • Organising and executing OSS backups
  • Reacting to OSS faults and requests within stipulated timeframes
  • Successfully resolving OSS faults within stipulated timeframes
  • Escalating unresolved OSS faults to Technical Assistance Centre 2 (TAC2) within stipulated timeframes
  • Following up and managing fault resolution of escalated faults to suppliers according to Service Level Agreement timelines
  • Ensuring the integrity of fault reports for the purpose of Service Level Agreement reconciliation
  • Escalating overdue faults according to escalation procedures
  • Executing OSS spare logs and obtaining replacements while returning faulty units
  • Implementing and maintaining strategies and procedures for disaster recovery
  • Monitoring OSS performance to ensure performance targets are achieved within specified timeframes
  • Collaborating with Network Engineers, IT teams and vendors to contribute meaningfully to OSS performance improvement projects
  • Ensuring the application of Total Quality Management (TQM) tools and the implementation of safety rules and safe work methods
  • Maintaining technical documentation, standard operating procedures and configuration baselines
  • Ensuring that related systems are compliant with industry and organisational standards
  • Strictly adhering to Health and Safety procedures
  • Implementing automated alerts and dashboards for real-time OSS performance visibility and reporting
  • Compiling weekly, monthly and quarterly OSS reports according to defined requirements
  • Ensuring consistency, accuracy and integrity of all OSS related data and documentation

Minimum Requirements:

  • University Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology
  • Extensive Operational System Support experience
  • At least 5+ years’ experience in IT infrastructure support
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of OSS systems
  • Extensive knowledge and experience on Linux RedHat 7 and above or similar
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in VMWare ESX, vSphere, and related virtualization technologies
  • Knowledge and experience in Windows Server 2016 and above beneficial
  • Knowledge and experience in cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, OCI) is beneficial
  • Database knowledge of MySQL and MS SQL is beneficial
  • Java knowledge is beneficial
  • A complete understanding of the configuration, operation and maintenance of IT infrastructure including servers, storage solutions, backups and network configurations
