We’re accepting applications for the position of Data Analyst in Johannesburg. The Data Analyst is responsible for analysing sell-in and sell-out data to provide actionable insights that support sales performance, inventory management, and commercial decision-making. The role plays a critical part in translating data into meaningful trends and recommendations to optimise stock flow, improve forecasting accuracy, and drive revenue growth across channels.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analysing sell-in and sell-out data across multiple channels including Retail, E-commerce and Distributors to identify trends, gaps and opportunities
- Monitoring product performance, stock movement and sales velocity, providing insights to support demand planning and inventory optimisation
- Developing and maintaining regular reports and dashboards daily, weekly and monthly to track key sales and performance metrics
- Partnering with Sales, Marketing and other teams to provide data-driven insights that inform pricing, promotions and go-to-market strategies
- Identifying risks such as overstocking, understocking or slow-moving inventory and providing recommendations to mitigate these
- Supporting forecasting and demand planning processes by analysing historical data, seasonality and market trends
- Tracking and analysing promotional effectiveness and return on investment
- Ensuring data accuracy and integrity across all reporting platforms and continuously improving data processes and reporting efficiency
- Working with large datasets from various sources including Enterprise Resource Planning systems, retailer portals and internal databases to consolidate and standardise reporting
- Presenting insights and recommendations clearly to stakeholders to enable informed business decisions
Minimum Requirements:
- Degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Finance, Business, or a related field
- At least 2 to 4 years’ experience in a Data Analyst role, preferably within retail, FMCG, or a sales driven environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex datasets and translate them into actionable insights
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data modelling)
- Experience with data visualisation tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar
- Working knowledge of SQL or other data querying tools (advantageous)
- Understanding of sell-in vs sell-out concepts, retail dynamics, and supply chain processes (highly advantageous)
- Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
