ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Finance Lead

This position is based in Johannesburg.

We’re accepting applications for the position of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Finance Lead. This person will be responsible for reporting ESG data to the Group, and will need to be self-motivated, ensure they are proactive in their work, identify new opportunities to embed and improve the reporting process, focussing on completeness, accuracy and delivery of information to meet compliance requirements. The role requires working with key stakeholders across the business, supporting the delivery of pre-defined ESG data and information to meeting Group compliance requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the overall ESG reporting approach for the Group including responsibility for completeness and accuracy of reported ESG data
  • Communicating and executing processes to obtain validate and submit ESG data derived from multiple sources across a range of key performance indicators
  • Driving implementation and accountability of Group defined policies and process controls while supporting stakeholders in addressing shortcomings in current processes
  • Managing data submissions to Group in accordance with relevant regulatory requirements
  • Continuously monitoring opportunities for process improvement including opportunities for automation in data collection
  • Supporting coordination and management of internal and external assurance and reporting governance working with cross functional teams throughout the business to integrate this into the overall governance and control framework
  • Producing required reports and data analysis for internal stakeholders to support operational decisions and programme management towards Group ESG targets

Minimum Requirements:

  • Accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA) or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a reporting function for a large organisation within a group
  • Ability to build strong relationships and support teams across multiple functions
  • Strong communication and excellent writing and presentation skills
  • Experience in working with cross functional teams in delivering data in compliance with regulation into a
    structured and controlled environment subject to external assurance
  • Experience of non-financial reporting and knowledge of relevant reporting frameworks (CSRD and ISSB)
  • Ability to influence alignment across geographically dispersed teams without direct authority
