The Key Accounts Manager is responsible for developing, nurturing, and expanding strategic relationships with high-value clients in the UPS and telecommunications sectors. Operating within a technical battery solutions environment, this role combines consultative selling, project coordination, and after-sales support to ensure client satisfaction and revenue growth. The ideal candidate understands complex power systems (including Li-ion and Lead Acid batteries, rectifiers, monitoring systems, and bespoke engineered solutions) and can align solutions to the operational and strategic needs of key clients.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Developing, nurturing and expanding strategic relationships with high-value clients in the uninterruptible power supply and telecommunications sectors
- Operating within a technical battery solutions environment involving consultative selling, project co-ordination and after-sales support
- Aligning complex power systems, including lithium-ion and lead acid batteries, rectifiers, monitoring systems and bespoke engineered solutions, to the operational and strategic needs of key clients
- Serving as the primary point of contact for all assigned key accounts within the uninterruptible power supply and telecommunications verticals
- Maintaining regular strategic communication with clients to understand evolving needs and build trust
- Conducting periodic business reviews to ensure account satisfaction and identify upselling opportunities
- Collaborating with the Project Application Engineer and product teams to design tailored power solutions, including hybrid systems, battery room configurations and remote monitoring
- Preparing and delivering technical presentations and solution proposals
- Co-ordinating and leading bids, proposals, tenders and pricing negotiations
- Identifying and converting opportunities to grow wallet share within existing accounts
- Developing account-specific growth plans with measurable targets
- Maintaining a deep understanding of clients’ industries such as data centres and mobile networks, along with their energy requirements
- Liaising with operations and logistics to ensure smooth delivery of products and services
- Overseeing the implementation of battery monitoring solutions and custom projects
- Escalating and resolving client issues promptly
- Maintaining up-to-date customer relationship management records
- Providing weekly and monthly reports on account activity, revenue forecasts and risk analysis
- Tracking and reporting on key account performance metrics
- Complying with any reasonable tasks assigned by any member of Management from time to time
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric and a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Business, or related field
- 5+ years of key account management experience in industrial,
- telecom, or energy storage sectors
- Deep technical understanding of battery technologies (Li-ion,
- VRLA, AGM), rectifiers, and UPS systems
- Proven track record in B2B technical sales and solution delivery
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills
- Ability to translate complex technical solutions into business value for clients
- Project management capabilities
- High emotional intelligence and customer empathy
- CRM and reporting software proficiency (e.g., Salesforce, Zoho, HubSpot)
- Self-driven with excellent organizational skills
