Lead BI and Data Analytics Specialist

We’re accepting applications for the position of Lead BI and Data Analytics Specialist. The Lead Specialist is a senior technical and strategic contributor role that leads the design, delivery, and optimisation of business intelligence and data analytics solutions. This role plays a crucial role in driving strategic insights and performance optimization through meticulous data analysis and interpretation. It transforms complex data into meaningful insights by applying robust analytical processes, including data cleaning, data interpretation models and trend analysis, delivering advanced business intelligence and data analytics solutions in supporting different business units to align with business objectives and uncover opportunities for growth and improvement.This role requires a highly skilled and independent thinker, who can take business requirements from start to finish, including understanding the need, identifying, and collecting the data, analysing the data and presenting it back to business to ultimately drive performance, customer experience, operational efficiency and competitive differentiation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Creating and replicating best in class telecommunications analytical and Management Information (MI) artefacts
  • Developing and maintaining analytical frameworks, models and reporting structures enabling robust analysis of business performance metrics
  • Continuously improving analytical methodologies and exploring new techniques to enhance the quality and relevance of Management Information (MI) artefacts
  • Utilising advanced analytics techniques to extract actionable insights from customer data by segmenting consumers based on behaviour, demographics and usage patterns
  • Conducting deep ad hoc analyses to identify emerging trends, opportunities or issues within specific consumer segments or geographical areas
  • Collaborating closely with Commercial teams to translate insights into actionable strategies and initiatives
  • Establishing and maintaining daily and weekly performance tracking mechanisms to monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Proactively identifying deviations from targets and collaborating with relevant stakeholders to address performance gaps in a timely manner
  • Providing regular performance updates and insights to Senior Management and other stakeholders
  • Preparing comprehensive month end Management Information (MI) packs encompassing performance metrics, insights and actionable recommendations for Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) partners
  • Collaborating with cross functional teams to develop solutions and strategies addressing identified challenges or capitalising on opportunities
  • Presenting Management Information (MI) packs to key stakeholders and facilitating discussions to drive alignment and decision making
  • Engaging with key business stakeholders to understand requirements and problem statements and identifying and solving needs promptly and concisely
  • Critically evaluating information gathered from multiple sources, reconciling conflicts, decomposing high level information into detailed insights and abstracting low level information into general understanding to direct commercial actions
  • Preparing, reviewing and presenting analysis results to key stakeholders including the Executive Committee (Exco) to inform strategic decision making
  • Understanding business direction and strategic objectives to identify areas requiring deep insight and analysis based on past performance and future goals
  • Supporting Commercial Finance teams to enhance existing models by providing input and information into business cases
  • Building budget tracking dashboards to assist Budget and Finance teams with monitoring operational Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) against budget
  • Supporting Pricing teams with continuously updated pricing models incorporating new products and views while monitoring implementation
  • Incorporating predictive modelling to enhance performance management and maintaining models to improve forecast accuracy
  • Strategically contributing to the improvement and refinement of data and analytics programmes including development of new data artefacts and enhancement of existing assets across the business
  • Maintaining repositories of business analytical artefacts to ensure knowledge bases remain current and accessible for learning and implementation
  • Providing expert guidance to Information Technology teams on eliciting functional, non functional and technical requirements and recommending impacts of new developments
  • Proactively communicating and collaborating with internal and external customers to analyse information needs and functional requirements while delivering and reviewing required artefacts
  • Delivering accurate reports and month end Management Information (MI) packs encompassing performance metrics, insights and actionable recommendations for Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) partners
  • Establishing and maintaining consistent reporting structures for daily and weekly performance tracking to improve comparability, efficiency and data integrity
  • Collaborating with cross functional teams to proactively identify deviations from targets and address performance gaps while capitalising on opportunities
  • Leveraging expertise to create an engaging, enabling and productive work climate aligned with the employee value proposition
  • Serving as an internal consultant and trusted advisor on Business Intelligence (BI) best practices and capabilities
  • Driving analytics literacy and adoption of Business Intelligence (BI) tools through targeted training, knowledge sharing and ongoing support
  • Leading and embedding data governance practices including role based access, privacy compliance under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and reporting standards

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering or a relevant quantitative field
  • Certifications in Power BI, Oracle Analytics, SQL, data science or similar
  • At least 8 to 10 years overall experience in data analytics and BI
  • At least 8 years’ experience in data extraction, analysis, and presentation of insights
  • At least 8 years’ experience in data modelling and forecasting and using it to guide future business decisions
  • At least 8 years’ experience in Oracle SQL
  • Experience in Python, R, Power BI, Oracle Analytics, Snowflake and Kimball
  • Knowledge of the telecommunications industry (desired)
  • Sound experience and understanding of straightforward procedures or systems
  • Proven experience in analytical ownership and completed/managed projects
