Retail Operations Manager

The Retail Manager (Johannesburg) is responsible for driving sales performance, brand execution, and operational excellence across retail channels. This role ensures strong in-store presence, effective merchandising, and alignment with commercial strategies to maximise sell-out, enhance customer experience, and grow market share for the company’s products.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Driving Retail sales performance across key accounts and stores, ensuring achievement of sell-out targets and revenue growth
  • Developing and executing Retail strategies to strengthen brand presence, optimise product visibility and enhance the in-store Customer experience
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with Retail partners, Store Managers and key stakeholders to support business growth
  • Overseeing in-store execution, including merchandising, product displays, promotions and compliance with brand guidelines
  • Analysing sell-in and sell-out data to identify trends, gaps and opportunities and implementing action plans to improve performance
  • Collaborating with Sales, Marketing and Product teams to align on campaigns, product launches and promotional activities
  • Managing and supporting in-store promoters or Brand Ambassadors, ensuring high levels of product knowledge, engagement and performance
  • Monitoring competitor activity, pricing and in-store execution to ensure competitiveness and identify opportunities
  • Ensuring optimal stock levels in-store by working closely with Supply Chain and Retail partners to prevent stock-outs or overstocking
  • Planning and executing Retail activations, in-store campaigns and promotional events to drive consumer engagement and conversion
  • Tracking and reporting on Retail performance metrics, providing insights and recommendations to Senior Management
  • Managing budgets related to Retail execution, promotions and in-store activities

Minimum Requirements:

  • Degree or diploma in Business, Marketing, Retail Management, or a related field
  • At least 4 to 6 years’ experience in retail management, sales, or account management within FMCG, consumer electronics, or a similar environment
  • Strong understanding of retail operations, merchandising, and in-store execution
  • Proven track record of driving sales growth and achieving targets in a retail environment
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret sales data and translate insights into action
  • Excellent relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Strong commercial acumen and understanding of pricing, promotions, and market dynamics
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools; experience with retail data systems is advantageous
  • Willingness to travel regularly to stores and retail partners
