Senior CAPEX Controller

We’re looking for a skilled Senior CAPEX Controller to manage and coordinate financial requirements with the commercial teams responsible for investment management. This position is responsible for the strategic oversight, monitoring, and reporting of capital investments in accordance with the plans. The CAPEX Controller ensures that all capital expenditure projects align with organizational goals, adhere to budgetary constraints, and meet regulatory compliance standards. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, the ability to work under tight deadlines and coordinate across teams, manage demands and coordinate submissions upwards and laterally. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the technology finance team and will collaborate with various departments to ensure effective CAPEX reporting, planning and governance processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the development and implementation of annual and long-term capital expenditure (CAPEX) plans, ensuring alignment with corporate strategies and operational objectives
  • Co-ordinating and preparing annual capital authorisation request (CAR) submissions
  • Co-ordinating and preparing quarterly capital investment review board (CIRB) submissions
  • Collaborating with departmental Heads to prepare CAPEX budgets, monitoring spending against forecasts, and providing variance analysis
  • Ensuring alignment with central financial planning and analysis (FP&A) on key CAPEX targets and strategic plans
  • Co-ordinating with the investment planning team to drive CAPEX build in individual technology teams
  • Co-ordinating reporting for planning, execution, and completion of CAPEX projects, ensuring delivery within financial, time, and quality requirements per Technology Investment Management team review and oversight
  • Overseeing the capitalisation, depreciation, and disposal of fixed assets, ensuring accurate and timely recording in financial systems
  • Co-ordinating detailed financial analysis of proposed CAPEX projects, including cost-benefit analysis, return on investment (ROI) calculations, and risk assessment with the respective Technology Finance Business Partner Executive Heads of Department (EHODs)
  • Preparing and presenting CAPEX reports to Senior Management, including project status, budget adherence, and forecast updates
  • Ensuring clear communication of CAPEX performance and risks, including cash flow implications
  • Managing the CAPEX approval workflow, ensuring all expenditures are properly authorised and documented in compliance with company policies
  • Ensuring all CAPEX activities comply with relevant accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal controls
  • Identifying and implementing continuous improvements in CAPEX controlling processes, leveraging technology and best practices
  • Facilitating internal and external audits related to CAPEX projects and fixed asset management, providing necessary documentation and explanations
  • Liaising with cross-functional teams, including Finance, Operations, Procurement, and Engineering, to support CAPEX-related initiatives
  • Identifying, assessing, and mitigating financial and operational risks associated with CAPEX projects

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in financial controlling, project accounting, or capital expenditure management within a medium to large organization   
  • Proficient in Smartsheets, Excel, Qliksense, HFM and SAP
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and cash flow management
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy
  • Experience in budgeting and forecasting
  • Experience in financial and business information analysis
  • Experience in financial modelling and business partnering
