A great new opportunity has become available for a Systems Engineer. This is a highly technical, hands-on role where the employee will be part of a core services team responsible for delivering advanced technical projects and providing expert consultation to operational markets. The role involves specialist support for core engineering activities, helping markets deploy and implement new solutions, modify existing services, validate and test core features, and support the integration of new solutions delivered by various stakeholders, including third-party providers.
Key responsibilities will include setting up, testing, and deploying new APIs, validating and deploying software releases, and supporting innovation by leveraging the existing capabilities of the core platform. The role also supports project teams and regional operations during service rollouts, upgrades, and capacity expansions. In addition, the employee will provide expert-level support to operations teams and assist in the implementation of new services and technical solutions, collaborating closely with vendors to ensure all technical aspects are successfully delivered. The role serves as a key enabler for the business by ensuring robust, scalable, and efficient technical delivery.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Providing specialist support on core systems engineering to assist markets with deploying and implementing new solutions
- Modifying or adapting existing services to meet evolving business and technical requirements
- Validating and testing new core features to ensure readiness for production deployment
- Validating new software releases to maintain compatibility and stability across environments
- Supporting the integration of new solutions delivered by regional teams, strategic partners and third-party providers into core services
- Setting up, testing and deploying new application programming interfaces
- Deploying and testing new software releases to enhance system functionality and performance
- Supporting innovations by leveraging the full capabilities of the core platform
- Supporting projects and markets during the deployment of new services, system upgrades and platform expansions
- Providing expert-level support to operational teams for issue resolution and knowledge transfer
- Supporting the implementation of new services and solutions by working alongside vendors to ensure all technical delivery aspects are addressed and completed
- Acting as a key technical enabler to the business by ensuring robust and scalable solution delivery
- Compiling detailed deployment plans with granular step-by-step technical procedures for change implementations
- Implementing deployment plans accurately, whether self-compiled or compiled by another engineer, to ensure successful change execution
- Participating in the delivery and support of advanced projects within the telecommunications sector
- Assisting in the analysis and design of new and enhanced deployments for the latest software releases and patches
- Supporting the integration and deployment of new interfaces, technology solutions and innovative features
- Supporting large-scale complex projects by ensuring all dependencies on the core system are technically sound and meet both functional and non-functional requirements
- Enabling new features through application programming interfaces and system integrations
- Collaborating closely with Architects and Service Designers to develop new solutions and services that maximise platform capabilities
- Ensuring project timelines are met to support effective delivery of initiatives
- Submitting deployment plans on time in line with change control requirements
- Ensuring deployment plan implementation is completed correctly and within agreed timeframes
- Maintaining and resolving Service Desk tickets according to assigned priority and service level agreements
- Ensuring accurate time logging and detailed work descriptions using Remedy, Jira and ManageEngine Service Desk
- Completing ongoing training and certifications as outlined in the Personal Development Plan
Minimum Requirements:
- ITIL v4 Certification and Scrum Fundamentals certification are advantageous
- Familiarity with ITIL Service Operations processes and Agile methodology
- Minimum of 7–8 years of experience as an engineer in a financial services or similarly regulated environment
- Proven experience supporting systems in a DevOps environment, with a strong track record in improving monitoring through automation and third-party tools
- Experience with mobile money platforms, financial systems, or complex integrations
- Demonstrated expertise in troubleshooting complex technical issues across software, hardware, and network environments
- Hands-on experience with change implementation processes
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools, log analysis, and remote troubleshooting techniques
- Familiarity with common ticketing and support systems such as JIRA, Zendesk, or ServiceNow
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences
- Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
- Effective organisational and time management capabilities
- Able to work independently without supervision, meet tight deadlines, and manage priorities in a high-pressure environment
