Applications are open for the position of Transmission Assurance Specialist in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. The Transmission Assurance Specialist will be tasked with providing transmission service assurance support for transport network architecture from core to access domains – this will include assisting to resolve ailures by engaging with high level support, engaging with support teams to correct hardware failures and alarms in the transport domain to ensure and improve network quality, applying quality checks on new transport infrastructure against specifications and guidelines, as well as managing the integration of new links and upgrades.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Providing transmission service assurance support for the transport network architecture from core to access domains
- Resolving priority 1 to priority 4 failures by engaging with high-level support and Access Transmission Network Engineering to correct these failures within specified timelines in core, edge and access domains
- Engaging with support teams to correct hardware failures and alarms in the transport domain to ensure and improve network quality
- Applying quality checks on new transport infrastructure against specifications and guidelines
- Managing or assisting with the integration of new links and upgrades
- Providing transmission assurance support to operations, Network Management Group, Consumer Business Unit, Enterprise Business Unit and Access Transmission Network Engineering for transmission core, edge and access infrastructure
- Providing transmission assurance support to transmission planning, transmission fulfilment, operations support and the counties for core, edge and access infrastructure
- Providing transmission assurance support to and from Field Force Outsource for edge and access infrastructure
- Taking ownership of transmission network performance and restoring priority 1 to priority 4 failures by correcting alarms and hardware
- Using reports from operations support systems platforms to identify issues and failures that require corrective action
Minimum Requirements:
- Three year Degree or Diploma in an engineering discipline
- At least 3 to 5 years experience in transmission implementation planning and systems
- Expert knowledge in microwave, fibre, router, sync and switch technologies
- Specific knowledge of Nokia, Infinera/Tellabs/Coriant, Nera, SIAE, Hughes, Radwin, and Symmetricom technologies
- Strong knowledge of TDM, ATM, PDH, SDH, C/W/DWDM, IP/MPLS, MEF, TX architecture, IP and TX protocols
- IP experience in Layer 1 to 4 of OSI stack and standards in IEEE, ITU, MEF, optical, radio frequency
- Analytical thinker and solution oriented
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Ability to travel extensively and work at night
