We’re accepting applications for the position of Regional Sales Manager in Johannesburg in the packaging industry. The purpose of this position will be to manage a sales team, drive regional sales performance, achieve turnover and gross profit budgets, and lead initiatives pertaining to customer retention, expansion and maintenance of select national key accounts. The Regional Sales Manager will also be responsible for playing a key role in new customer acquisition, and ensuring the team adheres to company policies and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Developing and executing strategic sales plans to achieve sales targets and expand the customer base
- Driving market growth and the adoption of new product offerings within the region through effective leadership and market analysis
- Working closely with Senior Leadership and other Regional Managers to ensure a cohesive group-wide market approach
- Building and maintaining strong, long-lasting customer relationships, ensuring high levels of retention, satisfaction and trust, particularly with identified Distribution Centres (DCs) and customer groups
- Providing timely and effective solutions tailored to meet client needs and managing key accounts for expansion and ongoing satisfaction
- Preparing and presenting accurate and timely reports on regional sales performance, growth initiatives, challenges and the competitive environment
- Regularly tracking and reporting on sales performance against targets, offering insights to Senior Management and monitoring regional sales budgets, adjusting plans as necessary to respond to changes in market conditions
- Reporting on factors influencing sales performance, strategic direction and the status of key accounts
- Working closely with Procurement to assist in stock management, including addressing out of stock situations and ensuring optimal inventory levels
- Collaborating with Marketing to develop content for social media, brand awareness and online presence as needed
- Representing the organisation at trade shows, industry events and client-facing initiatives
- Managing and overseeing the sales team to ensure adherence to company sales methodologies, policies, procedures and work ethics
- Mentoring and coaching team members, driving performance while fostering a culture of continuous improvement
- Monitoring and managing team performance, ensuring goals and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are met, including sales volumes, gross profit (GP) rands and product expansion
- Adhering to company policies and procedures, ensuring compliance in all aspects of the role to maintain integrity and uphold organisational standards
- Staying informed on emerging market trends, market shifts and the competitive landscape to identify new opportunities
- Ensuring the team remains updated on new products and services to effectively respond to market demands
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric essential
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Management or related field preferred
- At least 5 years experience as a Regional Sales Manager, Area Manager or similar
- At least 5 years experience in the packaging industry
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Strong computer literacy
- Strong team mentoring, coaching and management skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Strong negotiation skills and track record of closing deals
