We’re accepting applications for the position of Social Media Manager in Johannesburg. The Social Media Manager will be responsible for developing and executing the business’ social media strategy to drive brand awareness, audience engagement, and customer growth. The role focuses on creating compelling and culturally relevant content, managing day-to-day social media operations, and ensuring consistent brand messaging across all platforms. Working closely with internal teams, influencers, and agency partners, the incumbent will support integrated marketing campaigns, manage community engagement, and monitor brand reputation. The role also requires analysing social media performance and trends to provide insights and recommendations that strengthen the brand’s digital presence and support overall business objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Developing and executing a social media content plan that brings the brand and product messaging to life in an authentic and engaging manner
- Implementing the social media strategy to drive follower growth and engagement through targeted, customer focused content
- Developing and maintaining a social media content calendar aligned with marketing campaigns, product launches, and seasonal promotions
- Localising global brand strategies to ensure cultural relevance and resonance within the local market
- Monitoring social media trends and identifying new opportunities, tools, and initiatives to strengthen the brand’s social marketing presence
- Conducting competitor and market analysis to identify opportunities, best practices, and emerging trends in the social media landscape
- Managing daily social media channel operations, including content publishing, posting, and engagement with the online community across all platforms
- Maintaining the overall look and feel of social channels, ensuring alignment with brand guidelines, tone of voice, and creative direction
- Supporting content development through internal co-ordination and basic content creation, from ideation through to production and delivery
- Assisting in the co-ordination of social media content for events, activations, and product demonstrations
- Maintaining an organised digital asset library of social media content, images, and campaign materials
- Collaborating with the Creative Team to support the delivery of integrated 360° brand campaigns, including product launches, collaborations, and special projects
- Working closely with Digital Marketing and Online Trading Teams to support paid social formats, creative assets, and media plans
- Supporting the planning and execution of paid social media campaigns, including co-ordination with Digital Marketing Teams to optimise campaign performance
- Building and managing relationships with influencers, ambassadors, and agency partners, including briefing and project management
- Managing social media interactions between customers and the brand, ensuring positive engagement and effective co-ordination with Customer Service Teams
- Managing and monitoring brand reputation on social media, identifying and escalating potential risks or negative sentiment where necessary
- Ensuring brand compliance and consistency across all social media platforms and third party collaborations
- Tracking and reporting on social media performance using analytics tools such as Google Analytics, providing insights and recommendations to optimise performance
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Marketing, Digital Marketing, Communications, Media Studies, or a related field
- At least 3 to 5 years’ experience in social media management, digital marketing, or content marketing, preferably within a retail, consumer goods, or e-commerce environment
- Proven experience managing multiple social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, and LinkedIn) and growing social media audiences
- Experience working with influencers, brand ambassadors, and agency partners
- Proficiency in social media management and analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Meta Business Suite or similar platforms)
- Basic content creation skills, including copywriting, visual storytelling, and familiarity with design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite
- Strong understanding of social media trends, digital marketing strategies, and audience engagement techniques
- Excellent communication, project management, and stakeholder collaboration skills
